Justin Wetzel, with Arcadis, updated the board on site and systems work for the new facility and provided a revised concept and site plan for the hospital campus. "The revised concept features an expanded long-term care center with additional rooms and future build-out capacity," he said, and the board was told the SWPPP plan has been submitted to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation to address outstanding permitting questions. Wetzel also confirmed completion of UPS and power conditioner work for the WERC building under the base contract.
The presentation included a square-footage analysis comparing the existing hospital, the original 35% single-building design, and the newly proposed concept. The revised plan shifts emphasis to increased long-term care capacity and identifies systems (UPS coverage for MRI magnet, servers and vaccine refrigeration) that have been installed to ensure interim resilience while design continues. Board members asked technical questions about UPS operation and staffing plans for critical services.
