Daniels County commissioners voted to move forward with a proposal to host an on-site pesticide-container grinding center in Scobee, a facility intended to allow residents to recycle empty pesticide containers rather than retain them for scheduled pickups.
An agency official presenting the draft memorandum of understanding said the state will provide operator and collection services. "We, have an opportunity to have a pesticide container grinding center here in Scobee," the official said. Commissioners pressed for operational details, and staff said the initial arrangement would be seasonal with collections and grinding managed by the state supervisor and county solid-waste staff maintaining the site.
Commissioners discussed logistics including storage, transport frequency, acceptable container sizes and site utilities. The presenter said the grinder operator would transport processed material away and the county would be responsible for site prep and a concrete pad. After discussion, a commissioner moved to proceed with the project and the board voted in favor.
The county directed staff to coordinate the MOU review with county counsel and to arrange site preparation and public notice of hours once the logistics are finalized.
