The council approved the name "PV Emergency Radio — AM 1680" for a newly installed AM emergency radio transmitter located at Ridgecrest Intermediate School and sponsored under a city–school district MOU.
Emergency preparedness coordinator Luna explained the FCC license allows imminent danger and emergency messaging but prohibits music and advertising, and staff strongly recommended emphasizing the frequency in all signage: "We strongly recommend 1680 AM or AM 1680 regardless — that is where people have to go to find the information," Luna said. Public commenter Larry Muslitch urged a short, frequency‑first name and suggested a memorable jingle and a short, biweekly loop of community points of interest tied to specific locations to build recall. Councilmembers debated several options and ultimately approved "PV Emergency Radio — AM 1680," directing staff to refine the logo, develop outreach materials and train multiple staff on station use.
