District reports 2,388 students enrolled in Expanded Learning as Community Schools plan begins

At the May 19 Board of Trustees meeting, Director of Community Schools Karina Hartl and Coordinator Gabriela Delgado presented a first-year update on the district’s five-year Community Schools implementation plan. Staff described three focus areas: family and community engagement, integrated student supports (including health and mental-health partnerships), and collaborative leadership through advisory councils.
Presenters also described Expanded Learning Programs offered this year—high-dose tutoring, sports, robotics, cheer, musical theatre, art, and mariachi—and said 2,388 students are enrolled districtwide in those programs. Board members did not record further debate on the presentation during open session; the update was delivered as information to the Board.
