Board honors January students of the month: Sierra Friedman and Emmy Stevens

Superintendent Kim introduced two students for the board's January student-of-the-month honors.
Sierra Friedman was presented as the Elk Club student of the month. Kim described Sierra's academic turnaround after COVID-era struggles, a fall GPA of 3.6, four years of varsity golf and plans to attend Cal State Monterey Bay to study animal or wildlife biology. Kim noted Sierra's part‑time work caring for animals and her community involvement.
Emmy Stevens was introduced as the Edward Jones-sponsored student of the month and was described by Kim as having a 4.659 GPA through 12th grade, multiple AP credits, leadership roles (including co‑president of GSA and service on the Santa Barbara County Student Advisory Council), and community service experience. Kim said Stevens tutors other students in SAT reading and writing and has worked in childcare and at Gainey Winery.
Board members and administrators commended both students; the board paused briefly for photographs. No formal action was required.
