The board opened a public hearing on the sufficiency of instructional materials and heard a presentation from John Rice, executive director for alternative education, who recommended adoption of a resolution confirming materials are sufficient for county programs.
Rice described the adopted curricula — Reveal (math), Reading with Relevance (ELA) and the Brightthinker online platform — and noted many courses are A-G approved and that some texts meet the new ethnic-studies requirement. "I can assure you with confidence that we do indeed have sufficient materials," Rice told trustees. After questions from trustees about the state's pending science-of-reading guidance and implementation timelines, the board adopted Resolution 25-36 by unanimous roll-call vote.
