Board backs countywide fentanyl response; COE logs naloxone distribution

Trustee Larson and Dr. Heather Thompson presented Resolution 25-21 recognizing community partnerships and the county’s work to address the fentanyl crisis. Thompson summarized two years of coordinated activity—pop-up Narcan distribution events, community town halls, Fentanyl High documentary screenings with expert panels, and educational booklets in English and Spanish for middle and high school students.
Thompson described operational logistics for naloxone: "It's our duty to, county office of education. We're keeping a log... we order the most every year, 2,400 units and the pallet arrived last week," she said, adding that the COE communicates reversals to the Department of Health Care Services when a dose has reversed an overdose (the COE had recorded two such events at the time of the meeting).
Board members asked whether pamphlets would be available in high-school wellness centers and whether distribution and restocking were centrally tracked; Thompson said wellness-center navigators would be trained and districts log dispensed units. After discussion, Trustee Larson moved approval and the board adopted the resolution unanimously.
