During the public-comment portion of the Nov. 18 meeting, Louisville resident Tamara Lett told the Board she is troubled by a nearby auto body shop operating across County Route 39 under a previously granted use variance.
Lett said the shop’s traffic and headlights have disrupted her household and that she fears the business could expand into used-car sales. "Tamara strongly stated that she is unhappy with the amount of traffic due to Mr. Cook's business, is concerned about the sign, and about the business getting bigger," the transcript records. She also said that when Brent Cook first discussed starting the business, he led her to believe it would be more of a hobby and that she feels he was not honest about later growth.
Clerk Terri O'Keefe responded that the sign did not require a separate variance and had been included on Cook’s building permit with size and placement requirements noted; the clerk said the sign is allowed because of the earlier use variance authorizing the business at that location. Clerk Lisa Lincoln asked Lett for a daily estimate of cars at the shop; Lett did not provide a number. Lett asked to be notified of any future variance requests by Mr. Cook; Board members told her she must watch public notices for new applications. Board member Jeff Laba suggested the concerns may fall under Code Enforcement review rather than the Board’s current agenda.
No new application or motion related to the auto body shop was before the Board at the meeting; Acting Chairman Carl Bender asked clerks to verify whether the original use variance included any limits on the number of cars and to email him the result.
