Board approves disposal of obsolete library materials and two inoperable vehicles

The board considered a report on obsolete equipment, materials and textbooks and approved disposal during its Oct. 8 meeting. District staff told the board the remaining books from a library cleanup would be addressed and that two vehicles on the surplus list do not run; one needs a new catalytic converter and a fuel injector, and the other has an undetermined mechanical failure. Staff recommended recycling the vehicles rather than repairing them because repair costs exceed value.
Trustees asked questions and the board moved, seconded and approved the disposal on roll call. Staff indicated auto-shop and other campus programs already have ample vehicles for instruction and that the surplus items should be recycled or sold consistent with district policy.
