At the start of its Jan. 5 organizational meeting, Sylvania City Council swore in members and held the pledge of allegiance. The council then moved to nominate a president of council; Councilmember Murphy moved to elect Mary Westfall and it was seconded.
Mary Westfall accepted the nomination, saying, "My honor." The body voted unanimously to elect Westfall president for the next two years. Westfall then read proposed committee assignments and community‑organization appointments (for example, Sean Murphy to the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District). Council voted to approve the assignments as presented.
The procedural votes were taken by voice and recorded as unanimous. Council also scheduled a committee‑of‑the‑whole meeting for Jan. 20 to further discuss certain contract‑authority language in forthcoming ordinances.
