Sylvania City Council opened a public hearing on a special‑use permit request from William Gross to install an open, galvanized‑steel carport next to a house at 5910 Balfour Road.
William Gross, the petitioner, told the council the carport is a custom A‑frame roof only—"we're looking at just putting a steel, galvanized steel carport"—chosen because existing electric service and site constraints make an enclosed garage impractical. Council noted the Municipal Planning Commission had unanimously recommended approval at its November 12, 2025 meeting.
After brief questions from council members, Councilmember Sean Murphy moved and a second was made to advance legislation that evening. The motion carried unanimously. Council subsequently introduced and approved Ordinance 14‑2026, reading it by title and adopting it as an emergency measure to grant the special‑use permit.
The action allows the petitioner to proceed with permitting and building-permit processes under terms of the adopted ordinance. No public speakers registered opposition or formal conditions during the hearing.
