Council leans toward Community Park site for new parks maintenance facility to speed delivery

Staff presented a roughly $2.0 million estimate and program for a parks maintenance facility and discussed options including constructing on existing city property at Community Park or acquiring an alternative site such as the Schrade lot beside Fire Station 2. Christophe explained challenges in acquiring an off-site property within budget and said using Community Park could allow staff to proceed quickly with design and potentially use a design-build approach.

Council members voiced concern about concentrating traffic and equipment movements at Community Park and asked staff to evaluate site logistics, timing, and whether a secondary staging location could provide operational relief. Several councilors said they were willing to proceed with Community Park to expedite delivery, provided staff returns with detailed site evaluation and mitigation plans for traffic and park functionality. Staff agreed to provide a written comparison of options and an evaluation of Trady/Schrade parcels.
