"It seems like a tool that could be used to maybe harass people," one speaker said. Councilmember Britton moved to postpone action and recess the public hearing to the regular council meeting on August 4, 2026; the motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Jeff Winget framed the discussion as a balance between safety and neighbor rights: he said the council’s goal is an ordinance that protects resident safety while avoiding onerous or abusive enforcement. The delay gives council time for a full work‑session briefing and more discussion before any ordinance change.
