Rowlett ratifies emergency purchase for Bayside lift station pumps after two failures

Council ratified an emergency purchase on June 16 to replace pumps at Rowlett’s Bayside Lift Station after an incident left multiple pumps out of service. Interim Director of Public Works Gary Ennah explained the lift station has two duty pumps and one standby; two pumps went down at the same time and staff used a bypass pump to prevent any sanitary sewer overflow (SSO).
"The Bayside Lift Station has 3 pumps, 2 duty pumps, and 1 by‑standing pump in case of emergency… we do have a bypass pump on‑site, to control any SSO," Ennah said. The resolution authorizes purchase of a lift station pump from Xylem Water Solutions USA, in an amount not to exceed $156,000. Council moved and seconded the ratification, and the measure carried unanimously 7–0.
Councilmembers asked whether staff could provide an estimated arrival timeline for new or rebuilt pumps; staff said there was no exact delivery date but they were anxiously awaiting the first available unit. The council noted the item was pulled to ensure public awareness after lift station issues had been a recent concern.
