The South Whittier School District Board of Trustees voted March 13 to award superintendent-search contract #25-26-125 to School Leaders Inc., carrying the motion 4–1. Trustee Jan Baird moved the nomination and Board President Dr. Natalia Barajas seconded; Trustee Elias Alvarado cast the lone dissenting vote.
Board President Dr. Natalia Barajas said she appreciated School Leaders’ team approach, noting the firm “had several professionals in different fields providing their expertise and guidance.” The board recorded no additional conditions to the contract in the minutes. The decision follows two five-minute presentations from competing search firms and was taken during the same open-session agenda item in which the firms answered questions from trustees.
The School Leaders representatives told the board their plan aims to have a superintendent hired in June 2026 with a July 1 start date. The minutes record the board’s vote as four yes, one no; no roll-call discussion explaining the dissent is recorded beyond the tally. The board adjourned the special meeting at 3:57 PM and listed the next regular meeting for April 21, 2026.
