Board members and residents spent significant time on Aug. 4 discussing a proposed town‑village analysis committee to evaluate shared services and infrastructure issues. Staff recommended a committee of residents with liaisons from the select board, trustees, finance committee and planning commission; members stressed fact‑finding on financial and nonfinancial impacts, staffing implications and potential legal needs.
Speakers urged broad outreach to engage residents who do not follow meetings online. One participant suggested running an ad in the Standard and using public service announcements to inform older residents or people who do not routinely check the website. Several board members cautioned against using the word “merger,” saying “analysis” is a more neutral term and recommended returning to the board with clear language, objectives and a process for appointing committee members before any formal vote.
