Bountiful parents urge district policy after senior-athlete banners denied

Jennifer Brooks, a Bountiful High parent, told the Davis School District Board that her family and other Bountiful parents have been denied the long-standing practice of displaying single senior-athlete banners in the stadium.
"For the 3rd year in a row, we have been excluded from celebrating our senior athletes while we watch members of our community at Viewmont, Woods Cross, Farmington, Clearfield, and Syracuse honor their senior athletes with a public display of senior banners in their stadium," Brooks said during the public-comment period. She requested a consistent policy so principals and parents are supported rather than left to "random capricious decisions" by staff changes.
Leslie Groves, speaking on behalf of Bountiful Parents, described what the banner tradition means to families and recounted that her son Roman’s banner was displayed during his senior football season and later in his room during cancer treatment. Groves said Roman died in June 2025 and urged the board to restore the banners so other families can have the same opportunity.
Board members did not debate or reverse district practice during the meeting; the public-comment appeals were noted for follow-up. The board typically handles such policy requests either through district administration or a policy committee; parents asked that the board establish clearer standards governing sponsorship and banner display across schools.
