Commissioners back county participation in EPA food-waste prevention grant

Barb Walton told commissioners the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is sponsoring a national household food-waste prevention grant and that Ohio EPA asked the district to participate as part of a regional proposal led by the Ohio Food Bank Association. Walton said regionalizing the application can increase available funding and described potential grant sizes: "So it's anywhere from 75,000 to $300,000 grants."
Walton said the county has drafted a letter of support and that several neighboring solid-waste districts and partners (including Ohio State Extension and Food Rescue US) are expected to join. Commissioners were generally supportive, with one suggesting a small editorial change to the letter and the board approving submission of a support letter as part of the discussion session.
