County warns loss of large Wadsworth recycling drop-off site could overload nearby locations

Barb Walton of Solid Waste told the board that Wadsworth City informed the district it will no longer allow the county's drop-off recycling site, the program's largest. Walton said the site "sits on a right of way with a private owner property" and that an ongoing dispute between the property owner and the city may force the site to close. She said the location houses 19 eight-yard containers and that the program handled about 391 tons in 2025 at the site.
Commissioners and Walton discussed potential alternatives, noting only three nearby county sites could absorb extra volume (Guilford Township, Sharon Township Garage and Montville Township) and expressing concern that contamination and capacity limits could push more material to landfills. Commissioners urged residents to contact city council members if they want a local recycling option preserved or expanded.
