Grant awarded to extend Kahukai Boulevard; sponsor asks board to cover 3% writer fee

Vice‑President Smiley Burrows told the board the association was awarded a county grant to extend Kahukai Boulevard toward the kipuka, which she said could create an alternate escape route toward Pohohiki Road and provide access for roughly 30 lots and additional parcels near the kipuka. Smiley identified contractor Ikaika Marzo as the likely site contractor after survey and engineering work is complete and named Robert Golden as the grant sponsor and point of contact for grant support.

During open forum, Robert Golden asked the board to help cover a grant‑writer fee equal to 3 percent of the award, which he described as $15,000, arguing the expense serves the community’s safety and access needs. Vice‑President Smiley said the proposed surface for the extension is "cinder," in response to a question about paving.

Smiley said she will act as project manager.
