Board approves Lehigh Valley Health Network agreement; some parents ask about consent and notification

"The committee recommends that the board approve and authorize the board president to sign the attached agreement with Lehigh Valley Health Network to provide essential medical services for students," the committee chair said when presenting the item. A board member seconded the motion and the item passed by voice vote.
During public comment, a parent asked for more specifics about the agreement and how the district will ensure parents are informed and consent when medications or behavioral-health services are provided in schools. "If meds are given, are parents made aware? Where are the parents' involvement regarding this?" the commenter asked. The administration replied that the program aligns with a required school-based access program process and that legal review and committee discussion preceded the recommendation; the district also said administrators would follow up with additional details as requested by board members.
The motion passed. The vote record at the meeting reflected unanimous approval for the committee recommendations as presented.
