Joseph Thompson, the project architect, outlined revisions requested by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) after the project became subject to SHPO review because it will receive New York State public funding. SHPO recommended returning some windows to a 4-light horizontal divided-light pattern to match historic photos, substituting zinc panels in place of the proposed Corten material, reducing articulation on stair-tower windows, and moving the rooftop pergola back a bay so it is out of the main sidewalk view. Thompson said the team agreed that many of the changes were improvements that better acknowledge the original streamlined-modern architecture.
Board members discussed the material substitutions, window-grill changes and the pergola relocation; one committee member expressed that the revisions were an improvement and urged careful selection of finish and color. The board agreed to issue a new certificate reflecting the revised plans and directed staff to attach the updated drawings to the certificate.
