Friedt Park work nears completion; parking lot, court and sidewalks advancing

Assistant Director Jon Bellack told the committee that Friedt Park construction was moving rapidly after dry weather: final grading and seeding around the perimeter were complete, the contractor (VASCO) finished drainage and storm-sewer work and sidewalks were largely poured to provide ADA-compliant connections. Bellack said the parking-lot sub-base and basketball court sub-base were ready for pavement and staff expected substantial completion by June 30.
Bellack warned there could be short-term parking closures for final paving and said the neighborhood had been notified about temporary parking and crosswalk upgrades. Council members raised questions about an adjacent parcel; staff said the land would remain status quo and that terrain limitations made developing it for parking impractical. Bellack also noted that lighting adjustments and buffering would be used to mitigate any nuisance impacts from overhead lights.
