Staff asked the council to authorize submission of an application to the State Archives and Records Administration for a $75,000 Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund grant to begin digitizing permanent records and organizing a records-management project. Matthew Rudakov (speaker 15) said the grant is competitive and that previous applications were not funded, but that the city should apply and use NYSED-approved providers to scope and estimate the digitization work.
He emphasized the grant has no local match and that the work would be used to prioritize and digitize records that are permanent. Staff proposed using existing contract resources and city staff to write the application and recommended authorization to submit when the program opens.
