Council sets Aug. 3 public hearing, Third Reading for sales-tax ordinance

Councilwoman Hattie Burns told the joint briefing on July 20, 2026, that Chesterfield County Council has completed Second Reading on the proposed Capital Project Sales Tax Ordinance and will hold a Public Hearing and Third Reading at the August 3, 2026 regular Council meeting.
"Mrs. Burns advised that Council has had Second Reading on the proposed Capital Project Sales Tax Ordinance and will have a Public Hearing and Third Reading on said Ordinance at the August 3, 2026 Regular Council meeting. She also advised that Council was unanimous regarding the proposed Ordinance," the transcript records.
The joint briefing listed officials present and absent and recorded that the meeting was called to order by Commission Chairman John Long, that Vice-Chairwoman Karen Short opened with a prayer and led the Pledge of Allegiance, and that the meeting adjourned after no further items were raised. Council and Commission members will reconvene in a follow-up joint briefing on Aug. 17, 2026.
The July 20 session did not include a formal Council vote adopting the ordinance; the Council's Aug. 3 meeting will be the next opportunity for formal action and any public testimony recorded during the hearing will be part of the public record.
