Parkland students, teachers showcase 'Arts & Letters' literacy modules at board appreciation night

Teachers and students from across Parkland walked the board through classroom modules and student work under the Arts & Letters curriculum. Kindergarten through fifth‑grade presenters described modules on the five senses, farm life and libraries; students read short passages and explained what they learned. Middle‑ and high‑school presenters described events such as Spring House’s “Masked Reader” literacy night and classroom projects that use AI and maker spaces to extend learning.

High‑school students said literacy at Parkland extends beyond basic reading and writing. “At Parkland, literacy isn't just reading and writing,” student speaker Pooja Kulkarni told the board, adding that literacy means “thinking, creating, analyzing and communicating across subjects.” Teachers noted the Parkland Education Foundation grant that revitalized Accelerated Reader programs and raised student engagement. Board members responded with thanks and recognition of staff and student presenters.
