Kingsbury County approves $60,250 skidsteer purchase and hires heavy equipment operator

Vice-Chairman Corey Lundquist and the Kingsbury County Board on Feb. 3 approved a series of highway staffing and equipment measures proposed by Highway Superintendent Dave Sorenson.
The Board voted to offer a qualified applicant the Heavy Equipment Operator position at Grade Level 20, Step A, $23.04 per hour. The motion to approve the hire passed unanimously. The board also approved purchasing a used 2024 Model 262D3 skidsteer with about 300 hours from Butler Machinery for $60,250.00, opting to purchase the machine outright rather than finance it. The Board approved a separate wire-feed welder purchase, with authorization up to $5,000 for the welder transaction.
Sorenson also received travel approval to attend the Asphalt Conference in Mitchell on Feb. 11–12, 2026. The Board authorized Vice-Chairman Lundquist to sign the right-of-way occupancy agreement from Ottertail presented as part of highway business.
The approvals were recorded as motions (hire and purchases) and carried with all present voting aye (Commissioners Kyle Lee, Corey Lundquist, Roger Walls, Troy Nelson and Steve Spilde).
