The Hobart Sanitary District approved an emergency sanitary repair near 3410 Old Ridge Road at Barnes Street after residents reported sewer backups following recent installation work. City Engineer Alex Metz said the project involved a 30-inch sanitary sewer installation that required replacing existing laterals; subsequent settlement affected multiple laterals and a televising contractor, Absolute Pipe, inspected the lines.
"While soft soil conditions are believed to be the cause, staff continue to investigate," Metz said. The board voted to approve the emergency repair, with the motion seconded and carried (4/0). The action authorizes immediate remediation steps to restore service to affected properties and to limit further lateral settlement while staff determine permanent repairs and liability considerations.
