Maintenance superintendent: Pool hours change with school year; multiple park projects slated

Tom Tackett, maintenance superintendent for Anderson City Parks, told the board that because school resumes the next day in the district, pool hours will change effective immediately: "...tomorrow is the 1st day back to school in Anderson, so our hours will be changing effective tomorrow. So what there will be is at Monday through Friday, we'll be open 4PM to 7PM in the evening. Saturdays and Sundays will remain the same..." He said the pools and splash pad are scheduled to remain open through Labor Day and that he has enough lifeguards to keep the facilities operating, although guard coverage could be tight between Aug. 28 and Sept. 7.

Tackett also gave a slate of maintenance projects: resurfacing and crack repair for Pulaski and Streety Park basketball courts, full resurfacing and repainting of lines, and resurfacing of the six activity-center pickleball courts (work scheduled late August into early September). He said parking-lot seal coating and trail crack repairs are ongoing and contractors are keeping on schedule. For the pickleball courts, he estimated closures would likely last about a week and noted fence and mesh replacement could add a few extra days to the downtime.

"We'll get these done this year," Tackett said, describing the project timelines and confirming the work will be completed out of existing budgets. He also reported golf course improvements (simulators in the pro shop, pump-house and sprinkler motor work) funded from the Board of Works budget.
