The Cumberland County Planning Commission voted to set a public hearing on Conditional Use Permit CEP-26-03, the application for the proposed Cumberland Energy Center, a dual-fuel combined-cycle power station on eight parcels in the county's northwest. Planning staff asked the commission to set the application for public hearing so the commission and Board of Supervisors can consider comprehensive conditions; staff posted the application packet and related materials on the county project page.
A commissioner moved to set the hearing and asked that it be scheduled as a special session rather than on the regular August meeting; the motion proposed holding the hearing on August 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cumberland Middle and Hospital Cafetorium. The motion was seconded and carried. Miss Johnson, planning staff, told the commission the application was deemed complete under the code and that staff and legal counsel are drafting conditions for the commission and board to consider. "Staff respectfully request that the planning commission set this conditional use permit for public hearing," Miss Johnson said.
