The Hobart Sanitary District on June 23 ratified an emergency declaration after City Engineer Alex Metz reported roughly 11 inches of rainfall over the previous two weeks and multiple stormwater failures across the district. Metz identified four new sinkholes, bringing the known total to six, and said temporary stone repairs on Old Ridge Road continue to wash out.
"Approximately 11 inches of rainfall had been received over the previous two weeks," City Engineer Alex Metz said, describing damage at Coral Lane; 230 Hemlock Drive (two sinkholes in a residential yard); the southeast corner of Cypress and Hemlock; 2912 Coral Drive (a damaged manhole); and the 2900–2912 block of Cleveland Avenue. The board voted to ratify the emergency declaration and authorized Metz to work with Lochmueller Group to prepare documentation and assessments for emergency repairs.
Board members said they would leave Arizona Street work to Public Works while the sanitary district focuses on the listed emergency sites. The board-approved emergency declaration was presented as a short-term step to secure assessments and to enable rapid repair work pending formal contracting and project scoping.
