Roosevelt Elementary spotlights project‑based learning, family engagement and attendance gains

She said teachers are using instructional planning workshops and collaborative project supports to shift classroom practice toward inquiry‑driven instruction. Families are being engaged through a new ParentConnect series offered both in the morning and in the evening on Zoom to increase access.
Onyendu also described attendance work: Roosevelt reported a decline in chronic absence from nearly 18% two years ago to 13.5% this year. The school uses culturally responsive family conferences, counseling interventions, proactive SART/SARB-style conversations and recognition programs to motivate and support students. The principal said some classes are turning construction projects into learning opportunities and reminded the board that facilities work has a planned beneficial occupancy on Nov. 30, 2026 and full completion by Dec. 30, 2026.
