Residents press council for traffic-safety committee openings and fixes to pedestrian signals

During public comment, resident Jen Zawake asked whether the traffic-safety task force will invite residents to join and whether Peekskill will participate in a school-bus camera program addressing illegal passing. She also described faded crosswalks and malfunctioning pedestrian signals at Nelson Avenue and South James Street and asked when those lights would be fixed.
City staff responded that the task force will be opened up as part of the comprehensive planning process and that staff contacted the county about the school-bus camera program. Staff said they have engaged consultant AKRF to provide diagnostic capabilities for aging traffic-signal infrastructure and to help prioritize repairs.
"So I want to know if there's if this traffic safety task force, if residents are going to be invited to join..." Zawake said in public comment; staff replied that the approach will be similar to the Arts Council outreach process and that a proposal to spend funds on diagnostic technology will be brought back to council.
