Council to set public hearing Jan. 27 on law creating Peekskill Arts Council

Peter Irwin of the planning department presented a proposed local law to formally create a Peekskill Arts Council. The law would authorize the council to advise the common council on acquisition, exhibition, maintenance and deaccessioning of public art, maintain an inventory and maintenance plan, and foster collaboration with the local arts community.
Irwin said staff and the newly appointed arts board drafted public-art guidelines and will publish the guidelines on the Arts Council's web page. If the common council is comfortable, staff will present a resolution next week to set a public hearing for Jan. 27 so residents can comment on the draft law.
"The action for tonight is, we have a local law...the action would be if the common council is comfortable, So next week there would be a resolution setting that public hearing for January 27," Irwin said.
