Peekskill wins $675,000 state grant for DePuy Park upgrades

Jonathan Zamora, a recreation department staff member, told the council that the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation approved an Environmental Protection Fund award of $675,000 for improvements at DePuy Park. "The fund amount is $675,000 for improvements," Zamora said.
Zamora said the grant will pay for court refurbishing, a new soccer pitch, grading and landscaping to manage stormwater, pedestrian pathways separated from vehicles, a resurfaced accessible playground and a bilingual kiosk and signage connecting the park to the Blue Mountain Reservation trail system. He estimated the full project cost at about $1,350,000 and described the award as a 50% grant that the city would match using a Crest grant or Parkland Trust funds.
Council members expressed support for bringing a resolution to the council next week to accept the grant and begin the procurement and permitting steps; the council later approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into a grant agreement for the $675,000 award. Staff said they will provide public-facing site and phase plans and continue outreach as design and procurement proceed.
