The Somerville City Council on Sept. 25 approved two mayoral appropriations to cover contract settlements with the Somerville Police Superior Officers Association. The council voted 8–0, with two members absent, to appropriate $2,286,090 from the salary and wage stabilization fund to the police department's lump‑sum payments account and later approved an additional $97,160 from a salary contingency account to personal services accounts.
A solicitor’s office representative described the larger item as funding "the retroactive components of the 3 year agreement reached with the superior officers union over the beginning of summer," and confirmed the prospective component had been appropriated previously. Councilors asked clarifying questions to ensure the appropriations did not include body‑camera bonuses; the solicitor’s representative said they did not, noting officers are not yet wearing body cameras. The council approved both appropriation requests and sent routine accounting copies to finance as appropriate.
