Fair signs approved; commissioners invited to Constitution Contest judging and community events
Summary
During public comment, commissioners allowed Harvey County Fair Association signs on the courthouse lawn, heard a request for a judge for the Harvey County Constitution Contest (Oct. 16), and received invitations from Peace Connections for two community events.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, Gail Lanier of the Harvey County Fair Association asked commissioners for permission to place signs advertising the fair on the courthouse lawn; the board agreed and the signs will be removed at the fair’s conclusion.
Mike Fellows described the Harvey County Constitution Contest — an essay competition open to juniors and seniors who attend public school in Newton, Halstead, Sedgwick and Burrton — and requested that one of the Commissioners serve as a judge on Oct. 16 for approximately four hours; commissioners did not commit during the meeting. Kendra Davila of Peace Connections presented two invitations to the board: one for “Bridges Out of Poverty” and one for graduates of the “Getting Ahead” financial management class. Commissioners said they would let her know individually if they can attend.
The public comments were procedural and did not prompt any immediate policy votes.
