Harvey County’s Road & Bridge Superintendent Jim Meier told commissioners on July 15 that APAC — Kansas will start several overlay projects the following day that together will cover nearly 19.5 miles. Meier listed the first project locations as NW 12th between N Halstead Road and N Ridge Road, NW 12th between Ridge Road and N Meridian Road, S Ridge Road between U.S. Highway 50 and the City of Sedgwick, and paving to W Dutch Avenue between N River Park Road and N Halstead Road.
Meier also reported two bridge closures resulting from high water: the bridge on SW 48th remains closed and a second bridge on SW 60th just east of S Emma Creek was recently closed. Road & Bridge staff are obtaining estimates to repair both bridges. "APAC - Kansas will start several overlay projects tomorrow with nearly 19.5 miles being completed," Meier said during the report. Commissioner Becky Reimer inquired whether watershed and drainage districts share responsibility; Meier said they are collaborating and he was pleased with the response to recent flooding issues.
