Harvey County commissioners voted July 1 to approve submission of a federal Women, Infants and Children (WIC) grant application requesting $245,280 to support the county's WIC and breastfeeding peer-counselor programs. Health Department Director Lynnette Redington asked the board to authorize her to sign the application, saying the grant would pay salaries for five full-time staff.
Redington said the program serves nearly 550 clients per month and that the funding helps provide food benefits and nutrition supports. "The request is for $245,280," she said. Becky Reimer moved to approve the submission and Terry Scott seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The application covers salaries, contracts, direct costs and indirect costs subject to KDHE's final indirect-rate allowance.
