Piedmont Recreation to post summer activity guide Feb. 5; resident registration follows Feb. 12

Recreation supervisor Eva Phelan told the commission that the department will publish the summer activity guide online on Feb. 5 and that resident registration opens Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.; nonresident registration was slated for Feb. 19. Phelan said the department is planning seven full weeks of camps (June 16 through Aug. 1) and will offer about 300 total camp sessions, combining PRD and contractor camps, with field trips or swims most weeks.
"We have almost 300 camps this summer," Phelan said, describing scheduling adjustments to align with surrounding districts and new 'week 0' programming to accommodate staggered school calendars. Staff also said they are offering extended‑day options and working to keep contractor prices competitive; some fee increases were acknowledged but staff reported negotiating with contractors to hold prices down where possible. The department will publish an "At‑A‑Glance" PDF for parents and promote application timelines and counselor hiring information in February.
Next steps: the guide will go live Feb. 5; staff will publish registration links and counselor application details, and will manage site assignments to minimize cross‑town travel for families when possible.
