New Piedmont mayor lays out near-term priorities: dispatch center, EV chargers, community pool

During her inaugural remarks at the Dec. 16 meeting, Mayor Betsy Smigel Anderson identified several near-term projects she expects to mark during her term.
Speaking to the assembled council and community, the new mayor cited the newly remodeled 9/11 dispatch center, the planned installation of five public electric-vehicle chargers in collaboration with Ava Community Energy, and the long-awaited opening of the substantially improved Piedmont Community Pool. "I've been sharpening my scissors in hopes of cutting a lot of ribbons over the next 2 years," she said, adding that such projects often come to fruition after multiple years and councils.
The mayor used her remarks to thank former mayors, city staff and volunteers and to emphasize collaborative governance and community involvement in delivering public projects.
