The City of Piedmont issued a proclamation recognizing Lunar New Year and invited residents to the Piedmont Asian American Club's celebration at Ellen Driscoll Playhouse on Friday, Jan. 31. "Lunar New Year is a celebrated, you know, it's a celebration, reflection, and togetherness for many families in Piedmont and around the world," said Catherine Zhang, who identified herself and colleague Julie Lee at the podium.
Zhang described student performances, a lion dance and food at the event and said the club posts information to local channels; the mayor noted the event often sells out and urged residents to buy tickets in advance. The proclamation encourages recognition of Asian American contributions to the community and lists the Playhouse event as a community cultural program.
