Piedmont honors outgoing Mayor Jen Kavanaugh; she recalls eight years of service

Council, staff and residents gathered Dec. 16 to honor outgoing Mayor Jen Kavanaugh after eight years of elected service to the City of Piedmont.
Speakers included neighboring elected officials, community volunteers and council colleagues who praised Kavanaugh’s leadership and her work to promote women in local government. Marilyn Ezzy Ashcroft, mayor of Alameda, addressed the mayor and said, "I am Marilyn Ezzy Ashcroft and the mayor of the city of Alameda," in a brief tribute. Residents and former colleagues described Kavanaugh as energetic and committed; a student from Piedmont High highlighted the mayor’s outreach to young people and support for school programs.
Kavanaugh responded with a prepared farewell that thanked city staff, volunteers, former mayors and school board partners. She listed accomplishments including an environmental policy, infrastructure modernization and expanded recreation programming, and asked council to consider future generations when making difficult decisions. "Thank you for the honor of serving as your mayor," she said.
The ceremonial portion included video tributes from regional colleagues and concluded with Kavanaugh turning the remainder of the meeting over to the vice mayor.
