Board approves AP Physics C to expand calculus-based STEM pathway

The Piedmont Unified School District board voted unanimously to approve AP Physics C as a new course option at Piedmont High School. Staff cited 29 juniors who would be eligible under current pathways and said student-generated schedules will determine whether a section runs.
Supporters from Piedmont Makers and other community members urged adoption, and organizers committed funding for professional development: "Piedmont Makers recently awarded a grant of $2,500 for a PHS science teacher to attend the AP Summer Institute for AP Physics C curriculum," said Dave Ragonese (Piedmont Makers). The motion to approve AP Physics C was moved, seconded, and carried 5-0.
Implementation notes: district staff said no other course prerequisites were changed, AP teacher attendance at summer training is required for any teacher assigned to the course, and the district will assess student sign-ups against target thresholds before finalizing schedule decisions.
