Police report: Latino Fest child injury, National Night Out attendance down; training and mock drills scheduled

Chief Ryan Hanson reported that Latino Fest on July 26 had good attendance but a child was injured when a rock at the war memorial dislodged; the child received immediate care, was transported by ambulance and then airlifted for further evaluation and later diagnosed with a cracked collarbone and a lacerated spleen. Hanson and the chiefs noted some procedural fixes for future events, including no glass in the street and wristband checks.
Hanson also reported National Night Out attendance was down by roughly 100–150 people (likely due to weather forecasts or political atmosphere). The Fire Department announced a mock bus training on Aug. 20 at the Aksamit Bus Garage focused on propane bus response and involving EMS and state patrol; the department is also assisting Clarissa on tanker backup.
