Assistant Superintendent Ariel Dolowich said the agreement would allow Piedmont students to take community-college courses on the high-school campus for both high-school and college credit, provided a minimum cohort size (25 students per course) is met. "Dual enrollment involves an agreement... which allows for our students to take community college courses for high school and college course credit on our high school campus," Dolowich said.
Staff and department chairs identified likely early course priorities including advanced mathematics (multivariable calculus), discrete mathematics, data-structures for advanced CS students, entrepreneurship, and technical courses such as broadcast journalism or stage lighting that the district lacks capacity to teach at a collegiate level. The agreement waives registration fees for students (a modest health fee remains), while materials or textbooks would be a factor to resolve per course; staff said districts typically absorb curriculum or materials costs but may consider family contributions for some items.
Peralta will consider Piedmont's prioritized course list and return with options; staff said they expect to start small (one or two offerings) and target late‑day or end‑of‑day time slots to fit student schedules. The board's motion authorizing the agreement passed unanimously.
