County treasurer reports $26.6 million November balance as sales tax dips

The treasurer also reported delinquent taxes of $559,896.65 and said current-year (2024) taxes were recorded in the books (the recording in the meeting audio/readout was unclear on the exact figure). Staff said collection letters have been sent and that older delinquencies from 2021 still require legal follow-up. The treasurer noted that one large payment recently paid down a significant arrearage.
Committee members asked about variability in property tax notices and reassessments; the treasurer said increases varied widely by municipality, with some residents seeing only modest changes and others larger reassessments tied to city reassessments. The committee placed the bills report on file after the discussion.
