The Piedmont Unified School District Board approved the Facility Steering Committee's summer 2025 project list, with a not‑to‑exceed budget of $980,000. Pete Palmer, the district's director of facilities, reviewed the prioritization process and funding sources, and described priority 1 projects that address health, safety, and accessibility needs.
Palmer said the district has identified approximately $980,000 in funding for summer projects from restricted maintenance (RRMA), remaining State School Facility Program (SSFP) allocations, and grants/fundraising. "Total, available for summer 2025 projects is $980,000," Palmer said. He outlined major priority‑1 items including HVAC conversions to all‑electric rooftop units for SPED offices and the kitchen, urgent elevator upgrades and conversions to card readers for ADA access, and a food‑service grease interceptor and dishwasher grant that reduces net cost.
Board members questioned how TBD items would be funded and whether bid savings could be used to address lower‑cost priorities such as water bottle fillers and site greening. Staff said they will put projects out to public bid and seek cost reductions where possible; they also described community donation mechanics for greening projects. The board voted to approve the FSC recommendations by motion, 5–0.
