City schedules two outreach sessions for Linda Beach tot‑lot redesign

Eka Schneider, the staff presenter, said the project team narrowed equipment options and will consult actual users at two open‑house sessions. "Everybody, of course, loves the sand there. We will not have sand in the the new playground," Schneider said, explaining the team is weighing playground turf against matting and will seek user preference. Staff emphasized materials and displays will be available in English and Spanish and that residents who can’t attend can complete an online survey. The sessions are set for Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Commissioners questioned the age range and timing; staff confirmed the area is an under‑5 tot lot. Commissioners also raised shade and surface concerns — staff said shade structures currently exceed the project budget and that mulch may be used in some peripheral areas if funding allows. The city requested observers at outreach events refrain from engaging members of the public about project decisions to preserve neutral public input.
