Casanova said that "for mid-April, Ms. Lee's income, combined with the lump sum of the tax refund, was nearly $6,000, exceeding the income threshold," and explained that additional funds from loans or family members affect income calculations. The trustee said the township’s verification period spans 180 days, which in this case would run through the end of July 2026.
Trustee Casanova told the board that Ms. Lee could reapply after 30 days and that anticipated assistance amounts if reapproved would cover $650 for rent arrears; assistance for August could be for a $685 low-income housing amount. The trustee’s explanation framed the denial as an application of the township’s existing income and lump-sum rules rather than an arbitrary decision.
The commissioners did not overturn the determination at the hearing; they took the record under advisement and will issue a written decision within five business days.
